A History of Service

  • 1930 May 6, 1936 – Opened for business with 30 members and $855 in deposits
    May 14, 1936 – Obtained organizational certificate establishing University Federal Credit Union (UFCU)
  • 1940 1946 – Moved to M Hall on UT’s Campus
     
  • 1950 1952 – Exceeded $100,000 in assets
    1953 – Opened Medical Branch Credit Union in Galveston
    1954 – Exceeded 1,000 Members
    1954 – Appointed Mavis Knox as first paid Manager
  • 1960 1961 – Reached $1 million in assets
    1961 – Established operations office in Waggener Hall on UT campus
    1963 – Appointed Mollie Hartwig as General Manager
    1966 – Relocated to Littlefield Carriage House, and in late 1966 relocated off campus
    1967 – Reached $3.6 million in assets
    1968 – Appointed Ray Northrop as General Manager
  • 1970 1973 – Purchased and remodeled buildings at 30th and Cedar streets to house UFCU
    1973 – Reached $7.4 million in assets
    1975 – Appointed E Burton Eubanks as General Manager, then as President
    1978 – Purchased land at 46th and Guadalupe streets
    1979 – Expanded Membership to include UT graduate students
  • 1980 1980 – Introduced share draft (checking) accounts
    1981 – Opened Service Center at the University Co-Op bookstore
    1981 – Installed first ATM machine
    1982 – Opened branches in University Co-Op and Texas Union on UT campus
    1982 – Merged with Medical Branch Credit Union in Galveston
    1983 – Relocated main office from Cedar Street to 46th and Guadalupe streets
    1989 – Opened Dobie Mall branch, replacing the University Co-Op and Texas Union branches
  • 1990 1990 – Reached $125 million in assets
    1991 – Purchased land at Steck Avenue and Shoal Creek Boulevard
    1991 – Opened Downtown branch
    1994 – Opened South MoPac branch
    1995 – Established Computer Banking, now known as Online Banking, providing Members 24/7 access to services
    1995 – Opened Steck branch
    1996 – Established Taylor branch following merger with United Counties FCU
    1996 – Launched UFCU.org website
    1999 – Relocated North Guadalupe branch to Steck Avenue
  • 2000 2000 – Established Wheels 101® program to educate members about auto purchases
    2000 – Opened Highway 79 branch in Round Rock
    2000 – Expanded field of membership to include 90 select employee groups in addition to UT affiliated groups
    2000 – Celebrated E Burton Eubanks retirement
    2000 – Appointed Tony Budet, a 15-year UFCU executive, as President/CEO
    2000 – Reached $400 million in assets; exceeded 100,000 Members
    2000 – Launched second edition of UFCU.org website
    2001 – Established Home Economics 101® and College Education 101®
    2001 – Established UFCU Financial Services, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UFCU
    2002 – Opened Lakeline branch
    2002 – Launched the third edition of UFCU.org website
    2002 – UFCU Financial Services added for brokerage and investment services
    2003 – Opened Brodie branch
    2004 – Established UFCU Members Home Advisor® Credit Union Services
    2004 – Established UFCU Insurance Services
    2005 – Held first annual UFCU Steps to Cure Cancer 5k Walk/Run in Galveston
    2005 – Began offering instant issue debit cards; UFCU first institution in Central Texas to so
    2005 – Launched Shared Branch services
    2005 – Named as the lead contributor of funding to renovate Disch-Falk Field by UT Board of Regents in a 15-year agreement; secured naming rights to the facility, UFCU Disch-Falk Field
    2005 – Reached $700 million in assets
    2006 – Launched the fourth edition of UFCU.org website
    2006 – Celebrated 70th anniversary
    2006 – Opened University branch, replacing the Dobie Mall branch
    2006 – Purchased land at Ben White Boulevard and South Congress Avenue
    2006 – Broke ground on UFCU Disch-Falk Field renovation
    2007 – Donated $500,000 donation to the University of Texas Libraries for the renovation of the Perry-Castañeda Library's (PCL) main floor
    2007 – UFCU’s President and Chief Executive Officer name President of the Education Credit Union Council (ECUC)
    2008 – Completed renovation of UFCU Disch-Falk Field
    2008 – Opened Ben White branch, which received 5-Star Rating from Austin Energy
    2009 – Reached $1 billion in assets

    2010 – Opened Whitestone branch in Cedar Park
    2010 – Opened Mortgage Services facility in Lakeway
    2010 – Implemented Mobile Banking services
    2011 – Implemented mobile deposits
    2011 – Celebrated 75th anniversary
    2012 – Introduced ABILITY account
    2012 – Relocated Highway 79 branch
    2012 – Opened Teravista branch

    2012 – Purchased new facility, “UFCU Plaza,” to serve as corporate headquarters

    2018 – Opened Mueller branch

    2019 – Opened Trinity branch
